چکیده

The y-ray sensitivity of skin fibroblasts from six members of a cancer family was investigated using a colony-forming assay. Fibroblasts from the three members with cancer (two sisters with acute myelogenous leukemia and the mother with cervical carcinoma) showed a significant (p < 0.05) increase in radiosensitivity, while three members without cancer (the father and two sons) showed a normal radioresponse. The possibility that the increased y-ray sensitivity was due to defective DMA repair was investigated using assays for DNA repair replication, single-strand break rejoining, and removal of enzyme-sensitive sites in y-irradiated DNA. Results of these assays indicate that the kinetics of enzymatic repair of radiogenic DNA damage in general, and the rejoining of single-strand scissions and exci sion repair of base and sugar radioproducts in particular, were the same in the cell lines from the sensitive and clinically normal family members.

Residual DNA double strand breaks correlates with excess acute toxicity from radiotherapy

Introduction: A high risk for development of severe side effects after radiotherapy may be correlated with high cellular radiosensitivity. To enhance radiation therapy efficiency a fast and reliable in-vitro test is desirable to identify radiosensitive patients. The aim of present study was to identify the mechanism of radiation induced DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) and DSB r...

Use of Apoptotic Biomarkers to Predict Response to Radiotherapy in Breast Cancer Patients

Introduction: To enhance radiation therapy efficiency it is crucial to implement an individual-based treatment. The aim of present study was to identify the mechanism of intrinsic apoptosis pathway on radiosensitivity and normal tissue complications caused by the radiotherapy.   Materials and Methods: radiation-induced apoptosis in periphera...

The role and mechanisms of zinc oxide nanoparticles in the improvement of the radiosensitivity of lung cancer cells in clinically relevant megavoltage radiation energies in-vitro

Objective(s): Semiconductor zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) have unique properties, such as inherent selectivity and photosensitization effects under ultraviolet (UV) radiation. ZnO NPs serve as promising anticancer agents. However, UV radiation limits their penetration into the body. In most clinical settings, it is essential to use high-energy photons in the treatment of deep-seated tumors...

Bax/Bcl-2 expression ratio in prediction of response to breast cancer radiotherapy

Objective(s): Radiotherapy is one of the most effective modalities of cancer therapy, but clinical responses of individual patients varies considerably. To enhance treatment efficiency it is essential to implement an individual-based treatment. The aim of present study was to identify the mechanism of intrinsic apoptosis pathway on radiosensitivity and normal tissue complications caused by the ...
